ABOUT ALEXANDRA FLOOD
Australian lyric coloratura soprano Alexandra Flood has principal soloist of the Vienna Volksoper since 2022. 24/25 roles include Queen of the Night/The Magic Flute, Frasquita/Carmen, Princess Fantasia/Le voyage dans la lune (dir. Laurent Pelly) and Adele/Die Fledermaus. Past seasons include Clorinda/La cenerentola, Gretel/Hänsel und Gretel, Musetta/La bohème, and Pamina/The Magic Flute. In the coming seasons, Alexandra will tour with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, give role debuts as Mable/Pirates of Penzances and Olympia/Les contes d’Hoffmann in Vienna, and make her company debut with Opera Australia in La Bohème and The Merry Widow in 2026.
Alexandra began her career as a young artist at the Salzburg Festival (Blonde/Die Entführung aus dem Serail für Kinder, Modistin/Der Rosenkavalier). Whilst completing her Masters in Munich, Alexandra debuted as Marguerite/Le Petit Faust (Hervé) at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, performed Norina/Don Pasquale at Opéra Krakow, Vixen/The Cunning Little Vixen with Pacific Opera, Sydney, Blonde/Entführung at the Bregenz Landestheater, the soprano lead in J. Dove’s church-opera Tobias and the Angel with the Munich Radio Orchestra and Violetta in Traviata Remixed with at the Grachten Festival Amsterdam.
Alexandra has since enjoyed a flourishing solo career including appearances as Maria/West Side Story in Bolzano, Italy, the world premiere of Moritz Eggert’s opera Caliban at the Dutch National Opera, Nannetta/Falstaff at Malmö Opera, Barbarina/Le nozze di Figaro at Teatro Réal, Jemmy/ Guillaume Tell with Victorian Opera, Norina/Don Pasquale at the Bregenz Landestheater, and Elle/ La voix humaine with Opera Queensland, Female Chorus/The Rape of Lucretia with the the Opéra de Paris Académie. In concert, Alexandra has appeared with the Adelaide, Queensland, Moravian, Rossini, National (US) Bochum and Berlin Symphony, the St Petersburg and Vienna Philharmonic, the Southwest and Polish Radio Orchestras and the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, in such venues as KKL Luzern, Bolshoi Opera Minsk, St Petersburg Grand Philharmonic Hall, Berlin Philharmonic, Teatro la Fenice, Vienna Concert House, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Sydney Opera House.
During her studies, Alexandra was generously supported by the Opera Foundation for Young Australians, the Australian Music Foundation, the Melba Opera Trust, the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship, the Youth Music Foundation and the siaa foundation.
Alexandra is the Artistic Director of the Queensland Art Song Festival, an educational initiative focused on bring performance and practice opportunities in classical art song to young Australians.
ABOUT THOMAS VICTOR JOHNSON
Thomas Victor Johnson is a vocal coach and pianist based in Sydney, where he is currently a repetiteur with Opera Australia and a vocal coach at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Together with his husband, Paull-Anthony Keightley, he is also the co-founder of vioro.co – a creative consultancy studio. The recipient of a study scholarship from the Wagner Society in NSW in 2019, and the winner of the Richard Bonynge Accompanists Award at the 2018 Sydney International Song Prize, Thomas is in high demand as an insightful, refined and sympathetic collaborative artist. He is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he studied piano performance and accompaniment with Natalia Sheludiakova. Between 2019 – 2023 Thomas was on the music staff at Staatsoper Unter den Linden, where he also served as stellvertretender Chordirektor during the 2021/2022 season. In November 2023, he was engaged as a guest repetiteur by Simone Young AM for Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s concert performances of Das Rheingold, featuring Wolfgang Koch as Wotan, Michaela Schuster as Fricka, and Falk Struckmann as Alberich, and in 2024 in Die Walküre. He is also engaged to complete the cycle with Simone and the SSO, in Siegfried and Götterdämmerung. Thomas has worked with and played for conductors including Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Antonio Pappano, Simone Young AM, Philippe Auguin, Pietari Inkinen, Thomas Guggeis, Speranza Scappucci, Massimo Zanetti, Renato Palumbo, Carlo Montanaro, Guillaume Tourniaire, Patrick Lange, Andrea Battistoni, Anthony Legge, Tom Woods, Maxime Pascal, Giuseppe Montesano, Jonathan Darlington, Antony Walker, Kristiina Poska, Pietro Rizzo, Benjamin Northey, Tahu Matheson, and Christian Badea.
Thomas performed for the Wagner Society in NSW for Wagner’s Birthday Concerts in May 2024 and May 2025.
