An introduction to the performances of Der fliegende Holländer in Adelaide in early November. Afterwards Professor Lees to join interested Society members for a meal at a local restaurant. |
24 May, Goethe Institut | 11.45am: DVD – Act 3 of Meistersinger, Katharina Wagner’s 2007 Bayreuth production 2.00pm: – Annual General Meeting – Recital by Alexandra Hutton (soprano) and Adam Player (baritone) accompanied by Sharolyn Kimmorley. This included In Dem Schatten (Wolf) and and Ständchen (Schubert) sung by Lexi, and Frühlingsmorgen (Mahler) and Heiterkeit und Fröhlichkeit from Lortzing’s comic opera Der Wildschütz sung by Adam. – An afternoon tea to celebrate Richard Wagner’s birthday (22 May) |
19 July, Goethe Institut | 12.30pm: DVD – Katharina Wagner’s Feuertaufe (Baptism of Fire) – second screening 2pm: Recital by Stephen Whale, one of our student members and a pianist from the Sydney Conservatorium, with two fellow students Tom Johnson (piano) and Jared Lillehagen (baritone). Highlights included Jared Lillehagen singing Wolfram’s aria O du mein holder Abendstern (Ode to the Evening Star) from Tannhäuser, and Tom Johnson playing Liszt’s transcription of Mild und Leise from Tristan und Isolde. |
20 September, Goethe Institut | 2pm: Panel discussion led by members of the Society, who have been to the 2009 Bayreuth opera festival. |
18 October, Goethe Institut | 2pm: Concert by members of the Sydney University Opera Company: Louis Garrick and Jack Symonds played an arrangement of the “Pilgrim’s Chorus” from Tannhäuser for piano duet; Emma Moore (soprano) accompanied by Louis Garrick (piano) sang Berg’s Seven Early Songs; and Jack Symonds and Chad Vindin played seven scenes from Parsifal arranged by Humperdinck for piano duet. |
