19 February, Goethe Institut1pm: DVD – one episode of Wagner, Tony Palmer’s 1983 marathon (9 hour) film 

2pm: Professor Kim Walker, Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, to introduce the work of the Conservatorium, especially its Opera Unit. Then Sharolyn Kimmorley  illustrated the coaching techniques she uses with singers by conducting a class with a pupil from the Con, Catherine Bouchier.

– Kate Golla gave a short talk about her month in Germany last year

2pm: Terence Watson chaired a thoughtful discussion on the subject of anti-Semitism in Wagner’s music

– Report back by members who attend the Bayreuth Festival in 2006 – on the new Ring production, the first Bayreuth Ring conducted by Christian Thielemann 
Dennis Mather & John Studdert led the Ring discussion with a presentation of photographs from the programs and other sources.
– Elizabeth Gordon-Werner spoke about her personal and favourable reaction to Christoph Schlingensief’s much-maligned production of Parsifal.
