ABOUT TIJL FAVEYTS

Belgian bass Tijl Faveyts first captured International attention at just 26 with his commanding portrayal of Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. Since then, his dark, resonant voice has taken him to some of the world’s leading opera houses, including the Bayreuth Festival, Semperoper Dresden, Bayerische Staatsoper München, Théâtre de la Monnaie Brussels, Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, Theater an der Wien, and NCPA Beijing. Equally at home on the concert stage, he is a frequent guest at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Victoria Hall Geneva, David Geffen Hall New York and the Musikverein Vienna.

Following formative ensemble years in St. Gallen and at the Aalto-Theater Essen, Tijl joined the Komische Oper Berlin in 2019, where he has shaped a broad and expressive repertoire. His interpretations range from Daland (Der fliegende Holländer), König Marke (Tristan und Isolde) and Fasolt (Das Rheingold) to Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Don Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Ramfis (Aida), the Doctor (Wozzeck), Ferrando (Il trovatore), Gremin (Eugene Onegin) and Comte des Grieux (Manon).

He is regularly invited by leading conductors — including Christian Thielemann, Fabio Luisi, Kazushi Ono, Daniel Harding, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Kent Nagano and Pablo Heras-Casado — and collaborates with visionary stage directors such as Mariame Clément, Tatjana Gürbaca, Barrie Kosky and Stefan Herheim.

Upcoming engagements showcase Tijl’s deep affinity for the dramatic bass repertoire: Hunding (Die Walküre) at Oper Köln, Balducci (Benvenuto Cellini) at De Munt and Gurnemanz (Parsifal) at the Wagner Days Budapest.
